Ban the Tush Push.

I may be the only real football fan in America with this take.

All morning long, I have only seen arguments that are against banning the tush push. And I understand, I really do.

If you’re an Eagles fan, you should be absolutely pissed off. Your team created an unstoppable (for the most part) play, and now the league wants to take it from you. If something like this happened to the Browns, I’d be pissed off too, so I have no qualms with Eagles fans being upset. They should be.

I also understand it from a football player’s perspective. I say the same thing about running up the score, “if you want the team to stop, then stop it.” I personally say a version of that all the time. If you want the Eagles to not do it, get better at stopping it. Figure it out.

I definitely understand those angles, I really do. But for this play specifically, I do not agree.

I applaud the Eagles and Sirianni for figuring out a way to make the QB sneak unstoppable. But it sucks to watch. Just as a football fan.

Part of the reason I love football is the chess match that both sides have to play in order to win. Teams spend all week figuring out what plays they need to run on short yardage. Or what plays they need to stop. And seeing that play out every week is fun.

Knowing that every time the Eagles get in a short yardage situation and knowing that with 98 percent regularity, a first down or touchdown is coming within the next two plays.

In any form of entertainment, I hate knowing what’s coming. Which is why I don’t watch rom-coms.

Lead character is living a busy life, doesn’t have time for love. Lead character is running an errand and runs into the most beautiful love interest they’ve ever seen. They go on a date or two, and love interest catches lead character in some unflattering position and is upset. Lead character and love interest get back together in the end. Boom, done, send it straight to Lifetime.

When you see the Eagles line up in that formation. It’s a foregone conclusion. It’s inevitable. And forgone conclusions are not good entertainment properties. I’m siding with the NFL on this one. Because if you let them keep doing, they’ll get good enough to start running it on 3rd & 5.

And if that happens, the drama is gone. And at that point, why even have Jalen Hurts run it, give it to Saquon. Hell, why not have a lineman do it?

And before you know it, you’ll have a mix of 11 offensive and defensive lineman on the field playing for the Eagles and winning every week.

So the NFL and the owners are for maybe the only time in the history of the league doing the right thing. Besides, after week 3 of the regular season you won’t even remember the tush push existed.

UPDATE: The tush push was not banned.

I thought the league saw my vision but it doesn’t. I guarantee in some form or fashion this is going to be an issue in 2025. Don’t say I didn’t tell you.
